1: Training Mode
Practice, practice, practice! The Mk.3 model eye provides you with the perfect platform for perfecting your technique. Use it, practice, get good. Getting comfortable and capable of obtaining HD footage on a stationary focus, will make all the difference when it comes to taking live examinations in practice
2: Mood Lighting
Set the mood for the examinations by lowering the lights wherever possible. While the retScope is fully mydriatic, and as such does not typically require patient dilation, lower ambient light can make it easier to get a good view of the retina itself
3: Plan the Perfect Path
Develop good habits by choosing your examination technique, and sticking to it – this enables you to perfect the same method of examination, making detection, diagnosis and future comparisons more consistent and easier to manage
4: Station, location, location
Position the Review Station behind the patient during the examination – having everything in a single field of vision allows for dynamic review and readjustment during the examination, helps maintain orientation, and reduces the chance of the patient being distracted by the screen itself
5: It’s All in the Wrist
For maximum control during the examinations, keep the front lens of the camera as stationary as possible, and use your wrist to reposition and readjust as required
6: Like a good teacher: put the pupil’s first
Aligning the camera with the pupil first, helps avoid catching the cornea and creating unwanted shadows on the captured imagery
7: ‘Tweak and ye shall find’
If faced with a patient with a high refractive index, affecting the autofocus, manual, micro-adjustments can be made using the controls at the base of the camera
8: Get close to your patients
The optimal examination distance for the retScope is 1.3cm from the surface of the patient’s eye. The pistol-grip design of the retScope specifically supports users extending their index finger along the barrel, providing a useful guide to distance
9: Setting the Stage
The Review Station allows for fully customizable examinations, with everything from light levels to led colours controllable via the software settings
Manually adjusting the sensitivity and/or illumination, for example, can help you achieve the desired results, whatever the situation
10: The Right Tool for the Right Job
The touch screen on the Review Station allows for complete control through every stage of an examination, but for finer tuning, more detailed work or for micro adjustments during side by side image comparison and annotation, the mouse and stylus provide additional levels of control to help you get the most from your retStreams
